About the Project
Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services is a 218-bed hospice providing specialist care for people with a wide range of needs from rehabilitation to end of life care. This is a high quality, person-centred care facility; this sensitive and acute facility provides specialist care to over 1,500 individuals every year.
There are over 600 staff and almost 300 volunteers who deliver this excellent service for patients and their families.
The project was for this new 2,500m2 single storey
36 bed extension and refurbishment of 800m2 of the existing palliative care unit.
The works involved careful planning in all aspects and stages of the project requiring continual liaison with the clients representative to ensure all works coordinated in the best possible way.
Due to the complexity of the works the project was carried out on a phased basis. The project was carried out in within a live sensitive & acute environment in which existing operations of the unit were maintained and protected during the works.
Key elements requiring detailed planning included existing wards within the live hospice environment and all service tie-ins and alterations that were required throughout the project. Careful consideration was given to the planning, management and control of noise, vibration and dust given the extremely sensitive nature of the surrounding environment throughout the project involving detailed planning and use of precise method statements. All method statements were issued well in advance of planned works to ensure client approval and time for any control or contingency measures to be put in place prior to the elements of work proceeding.
The unit includes single and multiple bedrooms, isolation rooms, treatment rooms and all associated staff and ancillary areas.
The new “state of the art “Palliative Care unit was finished to the highest standards and without impacting on the surrounding services and to full client satisfaction.
